Ice Cream Freezer White Mountain – Then and Now

The manufacturer of ice cream you buy today is no longer rooted in the tradition of manufacturing from a small town. As more and more products are manufactured overseas consumers are forced to reconsider the definition of quality.

Explore me the legendary history of the White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer Co., A little ice cream freezer common complaints, and suggestions to maintain its production of ice cream experience happy.

A brief history of the makers of White Mountain Ice Cream

The good old days of 1872-1962

“The White Mountain Freezer company that makes ice cream makers is the largest establishment of its kind in the world. The company began operations in Laconia, New Hampshire in 1872. Arenas being the inventor Thomas was the owner and manager. The company was successful from the start and has expanded its activities until 1881, when the factory was burned.

Mr. Arenas on board the business until 1888, when a corporate venture was formed and disposed of his interest in everything. The company is organized with a paid up capital of 100,000 dollars. Almost every piece of machinery used in the business – some of it is new and complex – was invented for, and patents are owned by the White Mountain Freezer.

After the complete destruction in the Nashua fire May 4, 1930 moved to Broad Street. In 1963, the company was sold to the Company of Alaska Freezer of Winchendon, Massachusetts. ”

This is about the historical relationship going, so I did a little digging to bring the story to date.

1963 to Present

In 1974, a group of investors led by William H. Potter, Jr., bought the company and changed the name to the White Mountain Freezer, Inc. Mr. Potter bought his partners in 1981 and remained president until the company was sold to rivals, a division Ray of sunshine, sometime in the late 80s or early 90s.

Finally, as recently as three or four years, Jarden Corporation (Coleman, Ball, etc) purchased and began manufacturing rival White Mountain Freezers in China. It is no coincidence that this is in response to complaints about the ice cream maker began to emerge.

Not all complaints to make ice cream are created equal

Consumer complaints generally fall into two categories: legitimate justification. The first category covers areas such as mechanical breakdowns and poor customer service. The second category is usually the result of pilot error or unreasonable expectations.

Of the 150 or so comments I’ve read, the more serious condition (3 total) was premature motor failure. Fortunately, breakdowns caused by the warranty and were replaced, although the client is responsible for shipping costs.

Another rare, although neither the complaint less annoying, I had to do with barrel staves drying and separation. This, according to one critic, can be remedied, while maintaining a small amount of water at the bottom of the barrel between uses.

You can not blame the ice cream machine for the disappointing results, if you do not read and follow the instructions – although many users for the first time, of course, skip this important first step when they complain to end the soup instead of cream in his first attempt.

The reason for the mix freeze is not simple, is not cold enough. The cause is usually inadequate or poorly distributed rock salt – a key ingredient needed to reduce the freezing point water. Here’s a tip for a reviewer to get the ice salt mixture to perfection.

“From the ice, alternating 8 cups of ice and 1 cup salt rock until the tank is full. The ice cream is finished when the machine stops beating, about 1 hour – works well every time, hope this helps. ”

If you like your ice cream acclimatize a bit more, drain the water from the bath and refill with ice and salt and let sit for a couple of hours.

Noise.

I will not understand how anyone can complain about the noise from an ice cream maker. When I was a kid and heard the unmistakable whistle of the machine ice cream jumped for joy at the prospect of the bowl after bowl of sweet, creamy goodness, even if it meant another batch of Tutti Frutti, my favorite recipe Dad.

If you suffer from an extreme aversion to noise, here are a few suggestions: earplugs, iPod, Dairy Queen, or buy an extension, and put it in the garden of his neighbor.
