Earn money teaching what you know
There are several moments in life when it is important to reflect on what we can do well. In the last year I found the need to carefully consider what business skills and interests that have developed over the years. Through this evaluation – both my husband and alone, and some ideas with a counselor at our local small business center – I had the idea of teaching baking and sewing. These are two skills I have had since I was young and almost second nature to me, improving the opportunity to make some money on the side by holding some classes.
I found that the current teaching of the classes has not been the most difficult, but has been looking for places to market and teach these classes. Called local area and the Departments of Parks and Recreation came into contact with the Girl Scouts. Most classes are offered and spring. Advertising in the local paper or even on a bulletin board in a grocery store are two other possibilities for getting the word out.
Both the Girl Scouts of liaison and the Director of Parks and Recreation I contacted showed a genuine interest. The Parks and Recreation Director encouraged me to take smaller classes, because the amount of interest – which was under my students desired minimum. I did it with the recognition that if these ladies are satisfied with their experience, to spread the word to other friends increasing the likelihood of similar, more economically productive classes to come. Although it is easier to work with a smaller group, especially when one getting practice on how to teach something better to people who have no experience, financial resources for compensation must be considered. For my class 6 weeks, I charge $ 10 for the kit of materials and $ 12 – 15 class session for each attendee. It also allowed the ladies to pay only for the weeks will attend. To teach this kind of sewing, I had to consider the supplies they need to have available for my students – iron, ironing board (compact regular), cutting mats, rotary cutters and scissors enough for 10 students. The charge of ten dollars for the kit of materials is intended to cover the cost of fabric, a pattern and thread. Planning ahead by purchasing adequate supplies in the sales of goods and garage will cause the cost of this expense more manageable.
To my kind of bread in the Department of Parks and Recreation put on a show, but gave women the opportunity to feel the dough and see each step in the process. I usually some grain for them, too. And I passed out copies of the routine step of making bread from scratch. The fee for this class was $ 150. As someone who is most essential in my kitchen, I realized that you only need to replace my cups and measuring spoons to maintain a professional look. After 15, beloved tools begin to show its age. This time I invested in stainless steel instead of plastic.
I found that driving and teaching these classes do not take up much of my time. However, it is important to recognize the need to allocate time to both make a list and get supplies in advance and a plan long enough to unload the van and get supplies inside and configure. Inquiring about the water supply needed no cable and running the installation were the details he needed to remember. The practice of making my presentation to someone who would not be critical, but it gives me the opportunity to express aloud what had planned to say and gives me constructive contribution helped give me confidence in my ability to communicate. Bring back samples of the desired result – if it is a simple piece that I had made or samples of bread and cakes, with recipes for – has helped pave the way for women to invest time and effort to start learning a new skill too.
The assessment of how I went along and at the end of the course gives you the opportunity to learn from mistakes and to recognize growth in their own abilities and ability to communicate effectively.
In general, I like the benefits of teaching these classes because they take me away from home due to excessive amounts of time. I can make a contribution to our revenues, while building my confidence in my abilities. It is much easier to make money through what you already known. I'd suggest also brainstorm with her husband and friends to see what you can expect to earn money teaching what you know.
