Ice Cream Maker Recipes Vanilla

Using vanilla / seeds in a recipe for ice cream?
I made vanilla ice cream a few times to buy the vanilla extract. Now I have some vanilla beans and like to use that instead of removing, for a stronger flavor. The vanilla ice cream recipe calls for adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the pan (after the sugar, milk, cream and the yolks were not boiled before), and stir over low heat for 15 minutes. Then go to the fridge and then an ice cream maker. "I can use the seeds of a vanilla pod instead of 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract? Is it okay to boil the seeds, and I will get the flavor that I have when you use vanilla extract? Or do I have to use a whole vanilla bean instead of seeds? A little help because they never use vanilla beans before. Thanks.
extact vanilla seems to be much more common in the U.S.. I always use a vanilla pod. I opened it, cutting all the way open grain, except for a small space that remains hanging together. Then I heat the milk with vanilla, sugar and before adding the egg yolks and cream.
