Cookware Timer
How do you know when food is finished cooking?
I have a new decent set of cookware, and I'm experimenting with different types food. I tend to mix the two cans (chili, beans, vegetables) with fresh ingredients (onions, green peppers, etc) and mix in a pot with oil oil and a variety of spices. I've been letting it simmer, stirring occasionally until you can smell. But when I know you do, before it begins to overcook and burn? My ex girlfriend used the smoke detector as a timer. Just kidding.
Its hard to answer this question, because everything has a different "machine made" to it. Onion take longer to cook then spinach, etc … Its best to cook fresh ingredients (Or anything that needs to be cooked) first instead, then add canned soups (these are already cooked and most require heat.) From here, bring to a boil and let (i usually stop once I start to see the steam). The best test is the taste test … just try and see if it is warm enough, and if the ingredients are desired texture. If you put canned soups before fresh ingredients, then it will be necessary to cook the soup for more time to properly cook the ingredients cool.
