Features and History of Havant Town Market – England
The history of Havant Town Market is intertwined with the history of Portsmouth, which extends nearly two thousand years. Havant was known for his parchment and gloves doing for the last 500 years. The ghost of Havant concerns a guy named Charlie who died while drinking gin horse – he hit a branch that dominates, while his horse galloped along a dark road, crushing his windpipe and causing death almost instantly. These injuries are immediately apparent in this ghost.
Havant was once Funta Hama. Funta meant spring. A man called Hama once owned this area of New Hampshire. Denville derives its name from the Saxon word that meant Denn forest pastures for pigs. (The "ville" was added much later). farm meant 'tun' The Saxon word or property. Brockhampton Brook Farm was home. Lang is the Saxon word for a long time to Langstone probably was once a village on a large stone.
At the time of Domesday Book (1086) Havant was a town with a population of about 100. It seems small for us but cities and towns were very small in those days. Havant had two mills, which lowers grain to flour to make bread for the villagers. A mill was southwest of the city. The other was probably in Langstone.

In the Middle Ages Havant went from being a large village with a small market town. In 1200 Havant was given a letter (document granting certain civil rights.) Between the right to have a weekly market. From 1451 also had a Havant annual fairs. (In the Middle Ages fairs were like markets but were held only once a year and attract buyers and sellers of a wide area). Later (the exact date is unknown Havant had an annual fair of a second). However, for us Havant seems small. Probably only had a population of several hundred.
In the late Middle Ages and the 16th century there was a wool industry in Havant but declined in the 17 century. However, there was a major leather tanning industry in the ages 16, 17 and 18. Havant had tanners (those who deal with animal skins). Havant also was known for its glove making industry.
The small town of Havant, was also known for making parchment. Parchment was made from skins of sheep, goats and calves. Was used as writing material instead of paper. Water is used to make parchment (the skin is soaked in it.) Spring in Havant given pure water, which made bright white parchment. So in Havant parchment was made of high quality.
For centuries Langstone was a small port. Even in the 19 th century there was a trade coast there. (For earlier products were taken often by boat along the coast of a part of the country to another rather than by land). Langstone Mill was built in the 18th century to grind grain to flour.
Meanwhile Warblington castle was built around 1525. However in 1643 during the civil war soldiers Parliamentary destroyed most of it.
Then, in 1761 Havant was severely damaged by fire, but was soon rebuilt. In 1762 Portsmouth Road Chichester was a turnpike. (A wagon road was privately owned and maintained, and had to pay to use it.) Proceedings of travel between the two cities stood in Havant.
But Havant in 1801 was a very small market town. I only had a population of 1,670. In 1801 was less than Havant Petersfield.
Havant grew steadily during the 19 th century, but in 1901 still had a population of less than 4,000. Meanwhile, in the 19 th century parchment industry continued to prosper you Havant. In 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was written on parchment made in Havant. However, the manufacturing industry Havant parchment in the decade ending in 1930. In the 19 century other industry in Havant was brewing.
As Havant grew in the 19th century improved facilities. Hayling bridge was first built in 1824. In 1847 Havant was connected to Portsmouth and Chichester rail. From 1867 a train ran from Havant to Hayling Island. After 1859 Havant was connected to London by train. Railway stations were built in Bedhampton (1906) and Warblington (1907), to serve these two areas of rapid growth.
From 1855 Havant had a supply gas (for lighting). Havant got its first police station in 1858. From 1870 Havant had a piped water supply. Also in 1870 Havant Town Hall was built.
In 1871, a fire department composed of volunteers was formed in Havant. However, in 1871 the two annual fairs were abolished. Havant Park opened its doors in 1889. Havant in 1894 became an urban district council.
Havant conditions continued to improve during the 20 th century. A cinema opened its doors in Havant in 1913. In 1970 the building was Havant's library. (The library moved to the Meridian Centre in early 1990).
By 1949, the population Havant, was about 8,000. In 1926 the remains of a Roman villa in the south of Havant.
The War Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1929. Havant station Railway rebuilt in 1938. Park Road, also built in 1938.
Havant water mill, which stood for centuries on the outskirts of the city, closed in 1934. It was demolished in 1958.

Since 1951 the Roman Catholic mass was held in a hut Nissen.

A Catholic chapel was built in Dunsbury Road in 1955.

A Methodist church was built in Botley Drive in 1956.

The first Baptist church in Leigh Park opened in 1957.

Building Projects

Market shopping parade was built in 1961-62.

In 1963 the Hayling Island Railway closed.

Havant Police Station police was built in 1964.

Havant by-pass was built in 1965.

A pool was built in 1974 and Havant Havant Art Center opened its doors in 1978.

Meanwhile in 1974 went from a Havant Urban District Council and won a city mayor. The Civic Center opened in 1977.

Havant Museum opened its doors in 1979.

Also opened a hypermarket in Havant in 1980.

Then in 1982, an entertainment center opened in Havant.

Part of West Street was pedestrian in 1983 and a hospital private, was built in 1984.

The first shopping center was moved to Meridian in 1991.
Pergamino do in Havant completed in 1936. The manufacture of gloves ended in 1960. However from 1945 the new industries such as light engineering and plastics came to Havant. In the 1950 in Brockhampton land reserved for industry. In late 1950 an industrial estate, built in Westleigh. Kingscroft Industrial Center opened its doors in 1984.

The Gypsies' Group (part of Havant Forest) is pursued by a drunk hunter named Charlie Pearce, who lived in Rowlands Castle.
